Donner Rotterdam

Summer is off to a good start this year at Donner. On Saturday, July 4, the famous bookstore on the Coolsingel will transform into a festival site where books, art, music, culture and good food come together.

During the first Donner Festival you can enjoy workshops, lectures, performances, signing sessions and surprising activities throughout the day throughout the store. Below we share some of the things you won't want to miss!

Dancing Among the Books

The day gets off to an energetic start with a free K-pop workshop hosted by Velvet Music Donner. Led by Paula Wissmann, participants will learn choreography from popular groups such as BTS, Stray Kids and Enhypen. No experience is required, so everyone is welcome to join in.

Later in the day, the theatre programme is packed with fascinating talks and encounters. Writer and presenter Erik Dijkstra will discuss his book Druk – In het hoofd van kampioenen ("Pressure – Inside the Minds of Champions"), exploring what goes on in the minds of elite athletes and how they perform under pressure.

Meet Simon Keizer

One of the festival's highlights is Simon Keizer. The singer, presenter and author will talk about his autobiography Wat Moed Dat Moet, in which he candidly reflects on the defining moments of his life. The session will also include a short musical performance, followed by an opportunity to have your book signed.

For Book Lovers and Collectors

Those on the hunt for unique finds should make their way to the book auction hosted by Antiquariaat Looijestijn. Dozens of lots featuring literary works, art books and publications about Rotterdam will go under the hammer throughout the day.

Visitors can also bring along their own books and prints for a free valuation by the antiquarian experts.

Art, Games and Tasty Treats

There is plenty to explore beyond the theatre programme. Caran d’Ache will be giving demonstrations of its creative materials, visitors can try out new games from 999 Games, and cookbook author Joeri Veul will be signing copies of his book Heilig Boontje.

Poetry enthusiasts can enjoy a performance by spoken word artist Babs Gons, who will read from her latest collection, Wie zijn wij morgen ("Who Are We Tomorrow").

Kamagurka Takes Centre Stage

Throughout the day, Christian Ouwens Gallery will present a special exhibition dedicated to artist Kamagurka. Visitors will gain insight into the long-standing collaboration between the gallery and the artist, featuring sculptures, wall pieces and a range of publications.
