Anyone planning a day out in Rotterdam city centre in the near future will be able to use a new Park and Ride (P+R) facility at Blijdorp Zoo from June onwards. The zoo’s car park will offer 250 parking spaces for anyone continuing their journey by public transport.
The new Park and Ride (P+R) site is located close to the A13 and A20 motorways, making it a convenient interchange point for visitors coming from outside the city. From Blijdorp, eight to nine buses depart per hour during the day towards Rotterdam Central Station. Within approximately ten minutes, you can be in the city centre.
Councillor Pascal Lansink-Bastemeijer describes the location as a logical place for motorists to switch to public transport. “When you leave again, you’re also back on the motorway in no time.”
Parking at P+R Blijdorp is free for visitors who continue their journey by public transport. As with the P+R locations Kralingse Zoom and Slinge, this applies for a maximum of 24 hours.
New is that visitors will also be able to park for free when continuing their journey with a shared scooter or shared bicycle. Those who only park and do not use public transport or shared mobility will pay €12.50 per day.
With the new P+R, Rotterdam aims to further reduce the number of cars in the city centre. By encouraging visitors to switch to public transport or shared mobility at the edge of the city, the centre should remain more accessible.
Diergaarde Blijdorp also benefits from the partnership. According to finance director Toine Linders, the agreement leads to better utilisation of the car park.
