You arrive at Rotterdam Central Station and want to head into the city centre, but where should you go first? No worries: from the station, you can walk straight into the city. Within 10 minutes, you’ll find yourself right among the shops, cafés, restaurants and popular hotspots. These three routes will get your day off to a great start, depending on what you’re in the mood for.

Route 1: For Food Lovers

Feeling peckish after your train journey to Rotterdam? As soon as you step out of Rotterdam Central Station, you’ll find plenty of excellent options for a coffee, a quick bite or a more substantial meal. For example, pick up a coffee at Lebkov & Sons, located directly to your right on the station square. Prefer a proper breakfast or lunch? Cross the road and head into Central Plaza, where you can take a seat at The Gallery Kitchen for delicious sandwiches, salads, toasted sandwiches and more.

More of a matcha fan? We’ve got a great recommendation for that too. In just six minutes, you can reach Kūmi Café, where you can enjoy excellent matcha drinks as well as baked treats made with matcha.

Another excellent option is to walk from Rotterdam Central Station to Bertmans. This popular spot serves breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner, and is only a nine-minute walk from the station. It also places you right in the city centre, so after your coffee you can head straight out for a spot of shopping.

Route 2: Shopping!

Want to start shopping straight away? We completely understand! With so many shops in Rotterdam city centre, you’ll want to make the most of your time. To reach the main shopping area as quickly as possible, walk through Central Plaza, located directly opposite the station. You’ll already find plenty of great shops here, and it also provides a convenient route to the Kruiskade, one of Rotterdam’s most beautiful shopping streets.

From the Kruiskade, you can reach the Lijnbaan and the Koopgoot in no time, where you’ll find major high street brands such as Zara, H&M, Nike, Stradivarius, Pull&Bear and many more.

Route 3: Art, Art and More Art

Rotterdam is an excellent destination for art lovers. From Rotterdam Central Station, walk onto Kruisplein and continue straight ahead along Mauritsweg. Why take this route? Because along the way, you’ll pass seven sculptures by seven renowned artists.

When you reach Eendrachtsplein, turn right towards Museumpark. This area is entirely dedicated to art and culture, with a range of museums, institutes and other creative venues. It is home to the iconic Depot, as well as the Kunsthal, the Natural History Museum and Het Nieuwe Instituut.

Fancy something to eat or a bit of shopping afterwards? From Museumpark, you can stroll straight to Witte de Withstraat, where there is even more to see, taste and experience.
