Fancy a relaxing city walk with a mix of water, greenery and culture? In Rotterdam Centre everything is close by: from stately avenues and city parks to impressive views over the Maas. This walking route takes you along the most beautiful places, starting at the bustling Central Station and ending along the banks of the Maas.
We start at the iconic Rotterdam Central Station, an architectural masterpiece and the perfect starting point for any city walk. From here we dive straight into the city via the Mauritsweg: an atmospheric street with beautiful facades, art galleries, cafes and of course: greenery!
The Mauritsweg is a nice approach to the green. While trams whizz by and people rush, there is still a feeling of peace. Walk along the canal or take the route along the other side: the Westersingel. Here you have a nice sculpture route.
At the end of the Mauritsweg we arrive at Museumpark. From here, walk past the Depot, towards the Kunsthal. Here you will find a beautiful park behind the Boijmans van Beuningen, with greenery and a pond. Take a moment here to enjoy the various architectural buildings, combined with the tranquility of the greenery. A beautiful part of Rotterdam.
Arriving at the Kunsthal, we cross the road to the next stop: the Euromast and Het Park!
If you ask us, this is one of the most beautiful parks in Rotterdam. This classic city park is perfect to really relax. Old trees, ponds, bridges and enough benches to enjoy the view of the Euromast. Fancy a spectacular panorama? Take the Euromast lift to the top!
In Het Park you will find Dudok in het Park and Parqiet - two beautiful places for a coffee or a tasty lunch.
As soon as you leave the park, you walk along the Parklaan towards the beautiful Veerhaven area. Here, historic sailing ships lie in the water and you can feel the atmosphere of old Rotterdam. The classic buildings, cozy jetties and the view of the Maas make this one of the most beautiful photo spots in the city.
You may have already spotted it from the Veerhaven, but the next stop that should not be missed on this walking route is of course the Erasmus Bridge. This bridge, also called the ‘Swan’, connects North with South and offers a view over the Maas. From the Veerhaven you walk along the Maas towards the bridge. And while you are there, walk up the bridge for a view of the Rotterdam skyline and the ships that sail in and out.
We have already arrived at the last stop of this walk: the Boompjes. This is the area along the Maas, a green strip with a beautiful view over the bridge. Walk towards the Willemsbrug, and stop regularly to look back at the Erasmusbrug or the Maas, where water taxis and boats pass by.
The route ends at the edge of the Oude Haven or at the Willemsbrug, depending on where you want to end your walk. Grab a drink by the water or walk a bit further towards the Markthal for a tasty snack!
