Anyone hoping to wander through the magical Kralingse Bos this autumn will be disappointed. De Grote Schijn will not take place in Rotterdam in 2026. After six editions, there will be no new light show in Kralingse Bos for the time being. The organisers have said that rising construction and production costs have made a new edition in Rotterdam financially unviable.
Since 2019, De Grote Schijn has been a popular autumn tradition in Rotterdam. After dark, Kralingse Bos was transformed into an atmospheric world of light, music and audiovisual effects. Visitors followed a walking route through the park, with trees, water and other parts of the forest becoming part of the show.
The most recent edition took place in 2025. The show was completely redesigned, with a new route and new scenes. After six editions, this marked the end of De Grote Schijn in Rotterdam for now.
The organisers have not announced a new edition for Kralingse Bos, so it remains unclear whether the event will return to Rotterdam in the future.
