In this article I would like to share two hotspots with you. Chinny and lunchroom Gilles are two places (next to each other!) on the Lijnbaan, right in the centre of Rotterdam.
You can visit both spots for sandwiches to go, but you can also eat it at the restaurants. I recently did this and share my experience below!
We start with Chinny. This is the right place for a Surinamese lunch. You can come here for delicious Surinamese sandwiches. But Chinny is also the place to go for an extensive Surinamese meal.
I'm always happy to come here, because of the friendly staff, fresh products and lovely interior.
This time I visited Chinny for an early dinner. I started with a typical Surinamese drink, Dawet, and a delicious bara.
Then I ordered a fried rice, which was served with sour cucumber, long beans and beans. You can spice up the fried rice yourself with delicious toppings, for example with pom, chicken soy sauce or chicken curry. This way you put together your own ideal meal!
Little tip from me: order a delicious ginger beer with your fried rice for the ultimate taste experience!
And then we arrive at Lunchroom Gilles, a household name in Rotterdam. This is easy to tell by the crowd around lunchtime. People come from all kinds of offices in Rotterdam to score a delicious fresh sandwich.
During my visit I started with a fresh smoothie in the spring sun on Gilles' terrace. Owner Hetty Chin told us that the smoothies are a great success. Especially the Rotterdammers who have paid a visit to the gym walk past Gilles for such a fresh smoothie. The ultimate vitamin boost after a workout!
Then it was time for the sandwiches! We took a baguette omelette gyros chicken (one of the bestsellers) and a roasted honey pork sandwich. Expectations were high, because of course we had heard good stories about lunchroom Gilles.
Our conclusion: no lies there, these sandwiches are so delicious! Crispy baked, good proportion of ingredients and the sauces complete the sandwich.
So, are you looking for a nice hotspot during work or during a day of shopping in Rotterdam Centre? Then Chinny and Gilles are both good options. Whether it is to eat in or to quickly get something to go.
At Lunchroom Gilles they only serve lunch, of course, but at Chinny you can also sit down for dinner. Enjoy!
