On 5 May, we in the Netherlands celebrate the freedom we have known since WWII and reflect on the unfreedom that still exists in the world. On this day, there are more than 200 performances in 14 cities throughout the country. We also celebrate our freedom in Rotterdam city centre, for example during the Liberation Festival Zuid-Holland.

Line-up complete

The organisers recently announced that the line-up for Liberation Festival South Holland is complete. Thus, visitors can look forward to a special selection of headliners, including French-Algerian rapper BOEF, the hugely popular singer songwriter Blaudzun, techno DJ and producer Cynthia Spiering and Goldkimono, the band whose song Money in My Head was declared the second 3FM Megahit of 2024 by NPO 3FM this year.

Furthermore, Numidia, Gallowstreet, Cashino, Rats on Rafts and a wide range of other artists will also come to Rotterdam to make the Liberation Festival Zuid-Holland an unforgettable party. Jasper Scholte: "The Liberation Festival South Holland is a festival where everyone should get their musical due. This requires a line-up that is as varied as it is attractive, with plenty of scents and colours. That is a challenge every edition, but I think we have managed to put together a very appealing selection of music again this year. In any case, we are very much looking forward to it."

Ambassadors of Freedom

Also special on this year's line-up is seven-member indie pop formation Son Mieux from The Hague. On Monday 4 March, Son Mieux's Tonight was crowned the best song by a Dutch artist at the Edison pop awards. On 5 May, they will come to Rotterdam as Ambassadors of Freedom for the Liberation Festival South Holland. The indie pop formation from The Hague thus follows in the footsteps of an impressive list of Edison winners who previously celebrated freedom in the Park near the Euromast, including Anouk, Mister & Mississippi and Goldband.

Festival director Jasper Scholte (JMR Event Makers) speaks of a fine tradition: "We are happy with these Ambassadors of Freedom. And yes, Son Mieux joins a fine line-up of Edison winners who previously performed at the Liberation Festival South Holland. Moreover, the jury praised Son Mieux's "Tonight" as a "timeless anthem that fraternises and connects". And let fraternisation and connection be two important underlying themes of our festival. Besides, Europe is currently suffering from the biggest war since World War II, so celebrating our freedom is more important than ever."

The festival takes place in The (Euromast) Park and is free to all ages. Will we see you there?
