Since 1984, Rotterdam has been the proud home of Summer Carnival in the Netherlands. This year, carnival will be celebrated on July 24 and 25. We have listed the best activities during Summer Carnival for you.
On Saturday, 25 July, from 12:00 noon to 7:00 pm, this vibrant and colourful parade will take place. Expect more than 2,500 dancers, 25 carnival groups, and countless decorated floats bringing the streets of Rotterdam City Centre to life!
The Summer Carnival Street Parade follows a 5-kilometre route starting from Blaak, with energetic dancers from a wide range of backgrounds, cultures, and nationalities making their way through the heart of Rotterdam. Dressed in the most spectacular costumes, they share one mission: to get everyone dancing! The Summer Carnival Street Parade is the largest Caribbean street party in the Netherlands — an event you won't want to miss!
The Street Parade takes place on Saturday, 25 July 2026, and starts at 12:00 noon on Blaak. The parade is expected to finish at around 7:00 pm. Curious about the route? You can find it via this link.
You will feel the streets vibrate during the Battle of Drums! On Friday, 24 July, the Coolsingel will come alive as the three best brass bands compete for the coveted title. Expect an explosion of rhythm, energy, and Caribbean vibes that can only be experienced during carnival.
The Mercado festival market is the culinary heart of Rotterdam Unlimited Summer Carnival. Spread throughout the city, you will find cuisines from all corners of the world, including Surinamese, Indo-Chinese, and Antillean specialities. Alongside the food stalls, there are also stands selling merchandise, clothing, and unique items from a variety of cultures. The Mercado can be found on the Coolsingel on Saturday, 25 July 2026.
The spectacular Rueda de Casino will once again be part of Rotterdam Unlimited Summer Carnival. Everyone is welcome to join on Saturday, 25 July, with no registration required and participation completely free of charge.
Rueda de Casino is a group dance in which at least three couples form a circle and dance salsa or son montuno, changing partners on command. The dance originated in Cuba. And the best part is: absolutely everyone can take part!
