From December 12th to January 4th, the Lijnbaan Plane Tree will be transformed into a beautifully lit Rotterdam wishing tree, right in the heart of the city. This iconic tree, which has witnessed Rotterdam's growth for generations, will be temporarily transformed into a radiant symbol of hope, warmth, and connection.
Each illuminated heart and other symbol around the tree embodies a wish from a Rotterdam resident. Make a wish for yourself, someone you love, your neighborhood, or for all of Rotterdam. The wishing tree shows how together we form the heart of the city and reminds us that we can share light and warmth, especially during the dark winter months.
Wishing trees have existed for centuries in various cultures: people tie ribbons, pieces of paper, or prayers to them as a sign of hope or gratitude. Here in Rotterdam, we give them our own twist, in an illuminated and festive way.
All wishes will be collected in the Rotterdam Wishing Tree Memory Book and will be given a prominent place on this website, so everyone can see how Rotterdam residents shine their light together.
You can submit your wish by sending an email to warmewinter@rotterdamcentrum.nl. Also include a photo, for example, of yourself by the tree or an image that matches your wish.
Come by, join in, and let your wish shine in the heart of the city. Together, we'll make Rotterdam a little warmer this winter.
