The European Para Championships have started in Rotterdam! This multi-sport event takes place every four years and is always hosted by a major European city. And the honor in 2023 is our beautiful Rotterdam.

Competitions will be organized for ten different para sports. This means that from August 8 to August 20, no less than 1,500 Paralympic athletes will come to the city from forty-five different European countries. They will compete to become European champions.

Indoor and outdoor locations

It is no surprise that the main hub of the championships is Rotterdam Ahoy. But in addition to the spacious halls that Ahoy offers, some matches will take place in the middle of the city. For example, the finals of the Para Archery are held at the Kop van Zuid and the best wheelchair tennis players compete for gold at the Schouwburgplein. In this way, everyone can be inspired by these top athletes.

Experience it yourself

In addition to European top sport, there is much more to experience in Rotterdam and Rotterdam Ahoy during the event. In addition to the exciting sports competitions, there is a daily varied programme of free clinics in various sports. These clinics offer the opportunity to become acquainted with wheelchair handball, tennis, rugby, basketball, archery and karate.

The clinics take place in Rotterdam Ahoy and at the City Center Courts. Would you like to get some information about sports with a disability? Then you are welcome in Ahoy!

Also nice is the Basketball Experience in the hall of the train and metro station of Rotterdam Central. Here you can gain a wheelchair basketball experience and you can win tickets for the EPC in Rotterdam Ahoy!

An illuminated city

With the many flags, banners and other cool decorations, Rotterdam is more than ready to host this event. On Wednesday, August 16, the flags will be hoisted at the Flag Museum, and on Thursday, August 17, the Erasmus Bridge, Euromast and the Wereldmuseum will be illuminated in the colours of the European Para Championships. Would you like to see it? Then come to these icons just before sunset, because the lighting is switched on fifteen minutes before sunset!

Inspiration and job market

On Wednesday 16 August, a job market and inspiration market will take place in Ahoy to introduce the businesses of Rotterdam to the possibilities and impossibilities of employees with a physical disability.

During this event, employers and job seekers will have the opportunity to get in touch with each other. Employers can not only find valuable information here, but also discover the way to various organizations and agencies that can advise and guide in the employment of jobseekers with an occupational disability.
