The Oude Binnenweg has gained a new hotspot. Clothing swap shop The Swapshop is opening a new location here. This gives Rotterdam a second place where fashion lovers can exchange their clothes – in other words: swap them.
The shop opened its doors in March and joins the growing number of vintage and second-hand stores on this popular street. In recent years, the Oude Binnenweg has developed into a true vintage hotspot, and with the arrival of The Swapshop the offering becomes even more sustainable and creative.
For those who are not yet familiar with the concept: at The Swapshop you hand in clothes, shoes and accessories that you no longer wear. In return, you receive so-called swaps – digital points worth €1 each. The better the quality of the item, the more swaps you receive.
You can then use these points as a discount on new purchases in the shop. With swaps you get 50 per cent off the retail price of items in the store. This makes shopping not only more affordable, but also more sustainable.
The Swapshop was founded in 2018 by Monique Drent and Laura de Roode. Their mission: to make fashion circular and give clothing a longer life.
What started as small-scale swap events quickly grew into a successful concept with several shops and events across the country. They also organised large clothing swap events at BlueCity, located in the former Tropicana swimming pool. In Rotterdam, The Swapshop already has a location on the Weena.
With the new location on the Oude Binnenweg, the founders are taking another step towards their ambition to make swapping the norm.
The new shop is by far the largest Swapshop location so far. The space covers two floors with a total area of around 200 square metres.
According to co-founder Monique Drent, this scale fits the growing interest in second-hand fashion. More and more people are looking for ways to give their clothes a second life, and swapping fits perfectly with that trend.
Thanks to the busy street and the large supply of items, the collection will change constantly. Visitors can find everything here: from vintage gems and high-quality pieces to everyday basics. This location will also feature a permanent sale section where items cost just €3 or €4.
