Imagine it's a beautiful day and you're strolling along the Coolsingel, shopping on the Meent, or simply enjoying the sun at the Leuvehaven, and suddenly you get the feeling that you have to eat something.

Lunchtime or not, a tasty snack is always welcome. That's why I'm giving you some good snack tips in this blog that will satisfy the gnawing in your stomach!

Bentō Café

Between the high-rise buildings of the Weena and the hustle and bustle of the Lijnbaan you will find the Bentō Café. As the name suggests, you can mainly go here for a traditional Japanese lunch: the bento box. Do you fancy something for a quick bite? Then take a look at the counter and try an onigiri: a delicious rice ball filled with various combinations of vegetables, fish or meat.

I tried the Spicy Ebi Tempura and it is indeed quite spicy, but you also don't want to miss the Yuzu Karaage. Fried chicken can't really go wrong, but the combination with the tangy yuzu is not to be sneezed at. Bentō Café also has a wide selection of different Iced (Matcha) Lattes, which are certainly a pleasant thirst quencher with the nice weather we have been having lately!

Waffel

If you walk from the Coolsingel to the Binnenwegplein, you will find Waffel, a small shop with all kinds of sweet and savoury waffles, run by Mercedes Roggen, the winner of Heel Holland Bakt 2023! This also means that we are of course not talking about the standard waffle with powdered sugar, but about crazy combinations that look so delicious that you almost forget to eat them. (By the way, if you still want a classic powdered sugar waffle, that is also available, but be adventurous and go for a Rocky Road!)

SUGO Pizza

At SUGO you can also choose between a small snack or an extensive lunch. Here you can eat pizza al taglio, sheet pizzas in different flavours so that you can taste both a salami pizza and a truffle pizza. For a small appetite you can have one piece, but for a big appetite you can of course also score a whole pizza. As far as I'm concerned, an unparalleled concept.

What I especially like about the pizzas at SUGO is the delicious light and crispy base. I tried SUGO's own Not your ordinary Margherita: it is similar to the regular Margherita, but the tomato sauce is more intense in flavour and the parmesan crisps add just that little bit of extra bite. I was also surprised by the Redefine lamb kebab: a pizza with vegan lamb kebab. The structure and flavour is much meatier than I thought and you can even taste the grilled edges like with real kebab. A pleasant surprise that is definitely worth trying.
