North Sea Round Town is coming. From June 25 to July 12, Rotterdam will once again resonate everywhere for three weeks: inside, outside, in places you know and in places where you unexpectedly find yourself.
And this year is extra special, as North Sea Jazz celebrates its 50th edition, and we’re happily building up to it. With more than 375 concerts across over 175 venues, there’s always something to catch your eye. Whether you go with a plan or just wander around, the city is alive.
For true jazz enthusiasts, there’s plenty to see, hear and experience. The opening night is not to be missed, where RUNA BECOMES SUN invites you to step into another world. Sound, rhythm and light slowly build, drawing you into a sensory experience. Immerse yourself on Thursday 25 June in a moment of calm, before the festival moves through the city for three weeks.
In Rotterdam city centre, the festivities get off to a great start on the Meent. It’s all about discovery here. You stroll from terrace to gallery, from shop to café, with music appearing around every corner. With around 50 concerts spread across 25 venues, the Meent transforms into a lively musical trail. Perfect for a summer afternoon that effortlessly turns into a long evening.
During the closing weekend, everything comes together and the city centre transforms into one vast stage. At Rotterdam Central Station, a large stage takes centre stage for three days straight. From the Lijnbaan to the Koopgoot, you can move seamlessly from one performance to the next.
Even on the move, the music never stops. Hop on the metro and travel along with RET Melodies, where live performances make your journey from Centraal to Zuidplein just that little bit different. And as if that weren’t enough, another high-energy stage awaits at Annie M.G. Schmidtplein (at the foot of Ahoy).
It’s clear that you can enjoy jazz music on every street corner. In Rotterdam South, for instance, you can compete with 1,000 others for that one chair during a lively game of musical chairs set to live music. Or follow a musical route along the water in the picturesque, historic Delfshaven.
Fancy a change of scenery? Hop on your bike and discover Hoek van Holland beyond the beach, with live music along the way. With a single ticket, you follow a route and set off together with the hosts.
