Something new and very cozy is appearing in the Rotterdam Central District this December: the very first Schie Blok Market! On Thursday, December 18th, and Friday, December 19th, the outdoor area of the Schie Blok will be transformed into a cozy evening market full of creativity, music, and a wintery atmosphere.
Just a five-minute walk from Rotterdam Central Station—and near the Stadhuis tram and metro stop—you'll discover a mix of art, design, clothing, vinyl, and unique finds from local artists between 5:00 PM and 10:00 PM. Perfect for those last-minute Christmas gifts, but also a wonderful way to simply browse with a hot drink in hand.
Rotterdam hotspots Biergarten, 160k, Annabel, and Roodkapje are expanding their bars and kitchens especially for this first edition. Expect plenty of delicious treats: from winter snacks to delicious drinks to warm you up. And yes, mulled wine and hot chocolate with whipped cream will be available, of course.
Anyone looking for a little extra cheer can participate in various activities. For example, you can write a Christmas card for someone you don't know who needs a little extra warmth, or make your own ugly Christmas sweater. There will also be several creative workshops. The organizers will announce registrations for these workshops soon on social media.
With Schie Blok Market, the organizers aim to create a space where innovative and local makers can come together. The wintery decorations, surprising activities, and diverse stalls are sure to create a warm and vibrant experience in the heart of the city. If the organizers have their way, this event will become a permanent Rotterdam winter tradition.
