What were tolls and excise duties on in the past? And until when did we pay tax on the bicycle? That history also includes riots and evasion. For example, the Revolt against Alva can be seen in the Tiende Penning Theater as the first tax war. The theme inspired old masters such as Isaac Israels, Jan van Goyen and Jurriaen Pool II.
The installations by contemporary artists Caspar Berger and Rueben Margolin put the theme in a contemporary perspective. Relax under the Tax Ceiling, where you watch the amenities paid for with taxes pass by. In short, look at taxes from a different angle.
